The body of former prime minister Ariel Sharon is lying in state at the plaza outside the Knesset, a day after he died at age 85. Mourners are paying their respects until 6 p.m..

Earlier, the government Cabinet held a minute's silence as it met for its weekly session.

Prime Minister Biyamin Netanyahu told the cabinet: "He will be remembered in the heart of the Jewish people forever as one of our most outstanding leaders and most daring commanders."

Sharon will be buried on Monday afternoon next to his wife Lily, at his ranch in the Negev desert.
