Police conducting a routine traffic stop in Indiana on New Year's Day got much more than they bargained for.

Andrew Scott Boguslawski, 43, was arrested on Interstate 70, west of Columbus, Ohio. Boguslawski was originally pulled over for going over 85 miles per hour (mph) in a 70 mph zone. However, investigators found two pistols, two rifles, 48 explosive devices and tools and materials to make additional explosives, according to the London (Madison) Press

Boguslawski faces a court hearing Friday in Madison County, where he is being held on a $1 million bond. In the meantime, an investigation has been launched to determine why he was in possession of so many explosives.

The Huffington Post reports that Boguslawski told the state trooper that he had no weapons during the traffic stop. However, the officer returned with a ticket and saw the handle of a gun between the man's knees.

"At that point, he drew his service weapon, held the man there and called for backup," recounted Madison County Prosecutor Nick Adkins. Adkins explained that the $1 million bond set for the defendant reflected the possible risk to the public.

The case has become stranger and stranger, according to reports. Buguslawski does not have a phone number listed with his address, and no lawyer is listed on his court dockets, according to the Huffington Post.

The Colombus Dispatch reports Wednesday that Boguslawski is, in fact, an Indiana National Guard specialist with experience in intelligence analysis.
