Representatives of the religious-Zionist Jewish Home party lead the list of MKs who spend the most time in the Knesset, according to date collected by Channel 10 from the Open Knesset website.
Jewish Home MKs hold five of the top ten slots in the scorecard for Knesset hours, and the 12-member faction leads all others with an average of 16.5 hours spent in the Knesset every week, per MK.
More specifically – members of the Tekuma faction within the Jewish Home are particularly industrious, with MKs Zevulun Kalfa and Orit Struk leading the Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home) MK pack, and Minister Uri Ariel with the most hours spent in the Knesset among all of the government's ministers.
MK Zevulun Kalfa leads the Jewish Home high scorers with 20.5 weekly hours. He is followed by MKs Orit Struk (20.3 hours), Moti Yogev (20.2 hours), Yoni Chetboun (19.3 hours) and Shuli Moallem (18.6 hours).
When not in recess, the Knesset has three work days per week – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – in which the regular plenum sessions and committee sessions are held. Sundays and Thursdays are devoted to visits, tours and private meetings.
The minister with the highest average of Knesset hours per week is Jewish Home's Uri Ariel, Minister of Construction and Housing. His average is 17.7 hours, despite the fact that ministers also spend time in their ministry bureaus, which are not in the Knesset building.
The highest-scoring Knesset Member is United Torah Judaism's MK Uri Makleb, with a whopping 25.6 weekly hours. At the bottom of the list are MK Eli Yishai (Shas), with only 4.7 weekly hours on average, and Kadima Chairman MK Shaul Mofaz, who clocks just 9.5 parliamentary hours on an average week.
National Union-Jewish Home Director-General Nahi Eyal commented on the report glowingly.
"Our MKs, Zevulun and Orit, together with the other MKs, who spend day and night working strenuously in order to take care of matters and help people, to advance legislation for the good of the Nation of Israel, the Land of Israel and the Torah of Israel, are the true spearhead of the Jewish people,” he said.
