Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Qadri Jamil has been removed from his post, various media outlets reported Tuesday. Jamil had served in the post for 1 year and 4 months, since June 2012.

A news flash on Syrian television claims that the reason behind the decision includes a neglect of official duties. Reuters reports that Jamil recently met with US officials in Geneva; it is unclear whether or not this was a factor in the decision to fire him.

Jamil made an official announcement this past week that Syria would be attending the Geneva II conference in November to discuss the options for ending the Syrian Civil War. The Syrian National Coalition, a major player in the opposition, has already refused to attend.
