The Maltese Navy has released footage of a rescue operation mounted October 11, after a ship carrying migrants sank near Lampedusa island, in the second such disaster in the area in less than 10 days. At least 38 people died in the second disaster.
The people on the ship were reportedly mostly Syrian refugees.
Italian and Maltese military forces using helicopters and boats rescued 206 of the 250 people believed to be on board the ship, authorities said.
366 migrants drowned in a shipwreck off Lampedusa on October 3, in the worst migrant boat accident in recent European history. Most of the victims were from Eritrea.
