A soldier in the Israeli Armored Corps serving in southern Israel sustained a head wound, Thursday, after he was hit by an accidentally discharged bullet.
Reportedly, the bullet was accidentally fired from a machine gun in a Merkava Mark IV tank, one of the main battle tanks used by the Israel Defense Forces.
A helicopter evacuated the wounded soldier to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba for treatment while he remained fully conscious.
The IDF said that the soldier is in moderate condition and is reviewing the circumstances of the incident.
In May, an Israeli tank from the Tze'elim training base in southern Israel diverged from its route and overturned, injuring the soldiers inside. A similar accident happened in August 2009 when a tank flipped over during an exercise and killed Sergeant Uriel Peretz Librant, 21.
Both of the accidents occurred with the Merkava Mark III tank.
