One person has been killed and two others seriously injured in a plane crash on Thursday evening near the city of Eilat.

The small aircraft crashed near the northern entrance to the city. Police shut down the northern entrance as first response personnel responded to the accident.

Paramedics were forced to declare one man’s death at the scene. The two survivors, both believed to be in their 50s, were taken to Yoseftal Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters sprayed the plane with water to prevent it from bursting into flames.

Last week Ben-Gurion Airport outside Tel Aviv went into emergency mode when an incoming Boeing 737 plane suffered the sudden failure of one of its engines. The plane landed safely.
