Police in Jaffa on patrol late Saturday night were stunned to find a youth setting a fire in the middle of a street in the town – and burning Jewish holy books.
Police approached the youth in order to determine the situation. When he saw the police coming, he began running. Police caught up with him after a short chase.
Police determined that the youth was a 16-year-old Jaffa resident. When asked by the police for a motive, he said he had none, and that he did it for “no particular reason.” Police did not indicate whether the suspect is Arab or Jewish and did not identify him, as he is a minor.
The youth was brought to court Sunday morning for an extension of his remand. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
