European Parliament President Martin Schultz and President Shimon Peres held a joint press conference Tuesday following Peres’ speech in the European Union parliament.

Schultz said the parliament has not yet made a final decision on whether or not to boycott Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria. Schultz noted that the issue is “controversial.”

Peres defended the presence of Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, and noted that past peace initiatives have assumed that most Israelis in the region will remain in their homes, with the Palestinian Authority receiving other land in exchange.
