Diamond magnate Beny Steinmetz is Israel’s richest man, according to Bloomberg News, which placed him at the top of the Ofer family, which Forbes records as the wealthiest.
Steinmetz’ net worth was listed by Bloomberg at $8.1 billion, an estimated $220 million more than last year.
Steinmetz, age 56, was listed as the 137th richest person in the world.
The wealthiest in the “Bloomberg Billionaires Index” is Amancio Ortega, Europe’s richest man and clothing manufacture Inditex SA's founder and former chairman. His fortune of a $53.6 billion puts him ahead of investor Warren Buffett, worth $48.4 billion. Buffet and Microsoft founder Bill Gates are in the top five.
The net worth of the top 200 is a staggering $2.7 trillion, and their empires range from pet food to miniskirts, soda distribution, diamonds and investments.
Other billionaires include China’s richest man, Zong Qinghou, and Asia’s richest woman, Gina Rinehart.
Zong Qinghou, chairman of Hangzhou Wahaha Group Co., is mainland China's richest man with a $20.1 billion fortune.
The fasting growing multi-billionaire is Ortega, whose company operates 1,600 Zara stores.
Bloomberg reported that he made $66 million a day this year.
