Ben-Eliezer Fully Awake
MK Binyamin “Fuad” Ben-Eliezer (Labor) is fully conscious after falling seriously ill earlier in the month, doctors said Sunday. Ben-Eliezer, 75, remains hospitalized in Assaf HaRofeh.
His condition is currently defined as stable, and if he continues to recover, he may be released within days, the doctors said.
On Friday Ben-Eliezer was put into an induced coma and moved to intensive care when his situation worsened. His stay in hospital began more than two weeks ago during a bout with pneumonia.
On Thursday, the Hebrew-language daily Yediot Aharonot published some of the conversations Ben-Eliezer held with visitors during his hospital stay. He told his friend Daniel Cohen, “I was almost on the other side, I saw what was there, but I decided to come back. Now I'm here.”
Ben-Eliezer also spoke to Labor party secretary Hilik Bar, who said the MK “sounded great, clear, focused – he sounded like Fuad.”
Ben-Eliezer's Hebrew name for prayers is Binyamin son of Pircha.
