Top U.S. envoys Dennis Ross and David Hale have arrived in Israel for more talks with officials in Jerusalem and Ramallah. The envoys are meeting in another effort to find a way to persuade the Palestinian Authority to return to the negotiating table with Israel.

The National Security Council adviser and deputy to the special envoy to the Middle East will discuss ways to maintain Israel's security edge in any future peace deal, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.

PMO sources said Netanyahu is determined to continue efforts towards resuming talks with the Palestinian Authority despite statements by its leadership that there is nothing more to discuss.

Jailed Fatah murderer Marwan Barghouti, considered an unofficial PA leader by much of the grassroots population, told an Algerian newspaper in an interview published Thursday that no real peace partner exists in Israel, the Associated Press reported.

“The Israeli government is a government of settlement, occupation, terror, siege and aggression. Peace with Israel is impossible at this phase,” he said. It is not clear how access to Barghouti, who is incarcerated in an Israeli maximum security prison, was obtained by the journalist.

Currently serving five life terms for his role in murderous attacks on Jews during the second intifada, the founder of the Fatah-linked Tanzim terrorist group is considered a hero among Palestinian Authority Arabs. He is also officially a lawmaker on the Palestinian Legislative Council, to which he was elected in absentia.
