IDF Chief of Staff Gets 'Four Species' for Sukkot
IDF Chief Rabbi Rafi Peretz presented Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi with a set of the Arba Minim on Sunday. Jews traditionally use the Arba Minim, or Four Species, during the holiday of Sukkot.
Ashkenazi plans to place his Four Species in a special sukkah – a temporary outdoor dwelling - in which he will welcome IDF captains and soldiers during the holiday.
Four sukkot were built this year in the Western Wall (Kotel) plaza thanks to a generous donation from R. Eli and Bracha Kleinman of the United States. A sukkah will be made available for those wishing to use the Four Species in a sukkah at the Kotel.
At 9:30 a.m. Friday, a new Torah scroll will be dedicated at the Kotel. The scroll was donated by the Rashid family of Los Angeles.
On Sunday, many thousands will gather for the annual Priestly Blessing at the Kotel. Men descended from the Biblical priestly line (kohanim) will bless the crowd twice, once at 9 a.m. and again at 10 a.m.
The Chief Rabbis of Israel, Rabbi Shlomo Amar and Rabbi Yona Metzger, and Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovich, will greet the crowds afterward.
