In a speech before the Knesset plenum Monday, MK Uri Ariel (National Union) berated Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for his announcement of a building freeze in Judea and Samaria.
"The former prime minister, Ehud Olmert, failed, but Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has surrendered,” he accused. “He has surrendered to the Israeli Left, surrendered to the Americans, surrendered to our enemies, the Palestinians,” Ariel stated.
"Why is it that Prime Minister Netanyahu, who calls the settlers 'my brothers,' is the one who hurts them more than any prime minister before him?” Ariel asked.
Ariel also participated in a debate in the Knesset's Finance Committee on an earlier freeze, which pertained to construction of industrial structures. “For many months,” he said, “the Defense Minister has not been enabling the construction of industrial structures in Judea and Samaria, including those that already received all of the approvals and for which development work has been carried out. This is a racist decision by the Defense Minister, which constitutes unlawful cruelty towards the settlers.”
The Defense Minister's Adviser on Settlement, Eitan Broshi, said that the debate over the industrial buildings was no longer relevant since the larger freeze announced by the Prime Minister. The new freeze is absolute, he said, and includes industrial structures.
