A number of people were injured Sunday afternoon as Jordanian police used billy clubs and other forceful measures to break up a demonstration by an estimated crowd of about 50 demonstrators at the country's agricultural office against the importation of Israeli fruits and vegetables.

Two were arrested. Six others joined them in the police van as a sign of solidarity, according to a photographer for the Associated Press.

The demonstrators claimed that money raised by the sale of the produce was being used to finance construction for Jews in Judea and Samaria. They also claim that the produce being sold came from communities that "were erected on occupied land."

Also coming in for criticism was the Hashemite kingdom's trade agreements. Under those agreements, more than 3,600 tons of produce are exported from Israel to its eastern neighbor. Jordanian officials say none of it comes from Judea and Samaria.
