PM´s Advisor Hints at Possible "Disengagement" From the Likud (IsraelNN.com) (IsraelNN.com) Eyal Arad, adviser to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, intimated this morning that the Likud membership might "throw Sharon out" of the party, in which case he would have no option but to leave. As the membership is not voting to approve or reject Ariel Sharon's membership in the Likud, but rather his leadership of it, Arad's statements were understood to be a hint that the prime minister would quit the party should he lose the next primaries.
"The prime minister does not want to quit the Likud," Arad told IDF Radio, "but if the party membership, in an action of the Judea, Samaria and Gaza Council under the leadership of Binyamin Netanyahu - who only recently jumped aboard that bandwagon - throw him out of the Likud, then it appears that he'll have no choice but to be thrown out." Last night, Mr. Sharon demanded of his advisers not to speak in his name about any possible withdrawal from the Likud. "It causes me damage," Sharon warned. ![]() Sign up to receive the Daily Israel Report by email (Free) © IsraelNN Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
