Powell Spells Out Iraqi Threat
(IsraelNN.com) In his address to the United Nations Security Council, United States Secretary of State Colin Powell made the US' case in the hope of gaining Security Council support for a military offensive against Iraq.
Mr. Powell quoted testimony from Iraqi weapons technicians who defected, confirming reports of weapons laboratories. US experts estimate that Iraq has between 100 to 500 tons of chemical weapons agents. Powell spoke of mobile biological weapons labs capable of producing large amounts of the non-conventional weaponry in one month's time.
Video and audiotapes were used to prove to council members that Iraq continues evasive maneuvers to undermine weapons inspectors. The secretary of state demanded that Iraq prove it is clean; adding the burden of proving violations should not be on the inspectors.
