Israel Transfers Tax Money to Palestinian Authority

Israel transferred 2 billion shekels ($500 million US) of withheld taxes to the Palestinian Authority (PA) today (Monday). The PA had previously refused the money because Israel planned to deduct a portion to pay part of a delinquent electricity bill. In order to come to today's agreement the Israel Electric Company withdrew its request for compensation.

Israel regularly collects taxes on the PA's behalf but has refused to deliver the money for the past four months, in response to the PA applying for membership in the International Court of Justice.
