Israel Lets Gaza Athletes Run in Bethlehem Marathon

Israel is easing movement restrictions in order to allow 46 Gazans to participate in a Palestinian Authority race on Friday. The Palestinian Olympic Committee initially requested permission for 55 runners, but the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) denied entry for nine due to security concerns.

This is the third annual Bethlehem marathon. Last year no Gazans received permission to participate because the race organizers declared that the event would be a protest for increased freedom of movement.
