Rivlin Against Cancelling Arabic as Official Language

President Reuven Rivlin said on Monday that he is against an initiative by MKs from Yisrael Beytenu, Likud and the Jewish Home to promote legislation to cancel Arabic as an official language in Israel.

"These days we learned about another defiant attempt to abolish the special status of the Arabic language in Israel and determine that Hebrew is the only official language," Rivlin said in a speech at a conference of the Israeli Bar Association. "We must understand that the battle for our home also includes a struggle over our ability to learn from all opinions and religions and to learn to live together."
