Minister of Housing Uri Ariel has said he is against permanent across-the-board budget cuts to the government ministries in order to fund Protective Edge, as has been proposed by the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.
In a letter he directed toward Prime Minister Netanyahu and Finance Minister Lapid, Ariel expressed his opinion that these cuts would greatly hamper ongoing services to the Israeli public, and that he could be expected to oppose the proposal.
"In this Sunday's government meeting the funding of Operation Protective Edge is expected to be discussed," he said. "But we have not yet seen the text of this proposal. Usually, when a radical budget cut is needed to fund something, it is a one-time proposition, and not an ongoing, permanent situation," he added.
