MK Uzi Landau Suggests VAT-Exempt Status for Southern Residents

Minister of Tourism Dr. Uzi Landau turned to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Minister of Finance Yair Lapid and Minister of Economy Naftali Bennett  this morning (Monday) in a letter asking them to promote a VAT-exempt status for residents of the south who live within 40 kilometers of the Gaza border.

In his letter Landau stated that "just as we attach importance to the Cabinet's handling of security and the military, so too, we have to acknowledge what the southern residents are facing on the economic front. It must be acknowledged that these citizens of ours have made a moral stance to settle on our borders, and they need to know the Israeli government will remain by their side, giving them both military and financial backing," he said.

Landau suggested that the exemption from VAT be set up in a similar fashion to the way it was set up for Eilat.
