Boko Haram: 'Caliphate' Declared in Northern Nigeria Town

Leader of the Boko Haram terror organization, Abubakar Shekau, has announced that he has created a ‘caliphate’ in a northeastern town in Nigeria which had been seized by insurgents earlier this month, according to a video obtained today (Sunday) by AFP.

“Thanks be to Almighty Allah who gave victory to our brethren in Gwoza, making it a part of the caliphate”, Shekau said in the almost hour-long video. According to Shekau, the town of Gwoza in the state of Borno has no longer anything to do with Nigeria.

Political analysts are saying that although the Boko Haram may be close to achieving its goal of the creation of a ‘caliphate’ in northern Nigeria, there is still an opportunity for the military to reverse the situation.
