The Rishon Letziyon Magistrate's Court today (Thursday) released a 28-year-old Arab resident of Yafo, under conditions requested by the police for bail and for him to stay off the internet for the next seven days. He is under investigation by the National Cyber Crime Unit of the Israel Police for incitement to violence through racist postings on his Facebook page.
The investigation was opened with full approval of the Attorney-General. This morning police conducted a search of the suspect's house, which yielded a computer. There are more than 20 ongoing investigations of this type taking place. Most recently the prosecutor for the Southern District issued an indictment against an Israeli from Arad for incitement.
"The police support freedom of expression, but are apprehensive of this (social) platform being used for the purposes of racial incitement to violence and we will continue to look into any suspicion of criminal wrong doing in this arena," a police spokesperson said.
