Killed Soldier's Family Turns Wedding Tragedy into a Community Service

Tonight (Thursday) the wedding of Major Benaya Sarel, Hy"d, and Gali Nir was to take place.  But the couple will never stand together under the chupa (wedding canopy), as Sarel was killed in Rafah just a couple weeks back, while fighting in Gaza. Family and friends of the soldier decided to make the tragedy count for something by taking the wedding feast and donating it to a Jerusalem soup kitchen.

In an interview on Galei Yisrael Radio this morning with Benaya's father, Rabbi Shalom Sarel, the Rabbi spoke of the future that Benaya will not be able to realize, and also of how friends and family were dealing with the tragedy.

"Donating the food that had been intended for Gali's and Benaya's wedding to a soup kitchen to be shared with the needy just fit in with Benaya's character; it is what he would have wanted.  He was a young man of fine character, and now we will never now just how far he might have gotten," his father said.
