Tel Aviv: By-Law Approved Allowing Supermarkets to Stay Open Shabbat

The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality has approved a revised amendment to a municipal by-law which would enable supermarkets to remain open on the Sabbath, thus circumventing the decisions of the Supreme Court and Minister of the Interior, Gideon Sa’ar.

Kol Yisrael (Israel Radio) reported that the new by-law would have the provision that supermarkets that would operate on the Sabbath would be chosen via a lottery or rotation, and that preference would be given to those located on the city’s main thoroughfares.
