Russia's Chief Rabbi's 'Call to Arms' - Tefillin and Candlelighting

An all-comprehensive campaign has been put forth by Russia's Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, in a letter calling for increased laying on of tefillin and lighting of the Shabbat candles in the merit of the Jews in Israel.

Following the the Rabbi's letter, a comprehensive campaign was initiated by the Marina Roscha Jewish Center, along with other organizations, to promote the laying on of tefillin. These days there are hundreds of visitors to the Center, who are greeted by shlichim (Chabad emissaries) and groups of volunteers, who help them put on the tefillin, as well as distribute other Jewish materials.

The campaign has gained momentum, with a call for the entire public to put on tefillin. Shabbat candles made by the women of Moscow are being distributed to the women for Friday night candlelighting.  The campaign is aimed for the protection of the Jews in Israel, and especially for the safety of the soldiers on the front lines.
