David District Police Commander Avi Bitton admitted, Sunday, that the police do not check Muslims the same way they inspect the belongings of Jews at the entrance to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The admission came during testimony in a suit by Temple Mount activist Yehuda Glick regarding access to the Holy site.
Following the hearing, the Task Force of Temple Organizations expressed surprise at the police "which fails repeatedly at preventing the bringing of firecrackers and fireworks to the Temple Mount, despite its being a closed area. The same police who give those going up via the Jewish gate a hard time, with a metal detector, checking baggage and picking at other ritual objects, treats Muslims who riot on the Mount frequently with kid gloves. The police don't even put them through the basic test they conduct on Jews who enter the Western Wall plaza."
