German Teacher Arrested for Stealing from Auschwitz

A 47-year-old teacher from Germany was arrested at the former Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz, under suspicions that he stole and attempted to smuggle out a number of items on display that used to belong to prisoners held in the camp.

Security agents caught the teacher in possession of 12 stolen items, including a fork, part of a pair of scissors, and remnants of pottery. The teacher explained during the ensuing investigation that he wanted to show the items to his students currently studying the Holocaust. The suspect was released after admitting to taking the objects, was fined and agreed to a suspended sentence.
