MK: Keep Treasurer Out of Public Broadcasting Budget

Chairwoman Karin Elharrar of the special Knesset committee for discussion on the Public Broadcasting Law called, Monday, for elimination of a clause that allows the finance minister to control the budget of the new body being created to replace the financially ailling Israel Broadcasting Authority.

The Yesh Atid lawmaker said, "As citizens of the country, we want to see public broadcasting [which is] reliable, critical and free from political and other irrelevant influence. Despite being told that this is a trivial clause which exists in any statutory corporation, I believe that because of the sensitivity and delicacy of public broadcasting, it has no place in the current bill."
