The Knesset Interior and Environmental Protection Committee approved for second and third readings, Monday, a bill to allow forced feeding of security prisoners who go on hunger strike. The committee was expected to review a request by MK Hamad Amar (Likud-Yisrael Beitenu) to revise the bill. The Knesset plenum is expected to approve the bill in its final readings later in the day.
Knesset members from the opposition slammed the committee`s endorsement of the legislation. ”This is a black day for the Knesset,” said MK Ahmad Tibi of the Ra`am-Ta`al-Mada party, while Basel Ghattas (National Democratic Assembly - At-Tajamuʿ Al-Waṭanī Ad-Dīmūqraṭī in Arabic - Hebrew acronym Balad) called the proposal ”a dumb law of a dumb prime minister.”
