R. Yosef to High Court: Cancel Ruling on Circumcision

Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, the Chief Sephardic Rabbi, expressed his disappointment on Sunday evening over the High Court ruling overturning the High Rabbinical Court ruling that a mother has the right to refuse to circumcise her son.

"The High Court’s decision to favor a civil court over a religious court on religious issues such as holding a circumcision is another escalation in the continued trend in recent years to reduce the powers of the Rabbinical Court," said Rabbi Yosef.

“As president of the Rabbinical Court, I call on the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to hold another hearing on the issue, cancel this puzzling ruling and end the erosion of the status of the rabbinical courts."
