The Ministerial Committee on Legislation divided, Sunday, a government bill to cut the authority of rabbinic divorce courts and demand mediation in divorce cases. The ministers endorsed the mediation legislation but postponed a vote on the measure to cut the court's authority by two weeks. Also delayed were three private bills in the same spirit which were to be attached to the government proposal.
The Jewish Home party, which opposes the bill, said it will file an appeal if the committee votes to endorse the measure. Under coalition agreements, the appeal would amount to a veto.
