Prosecutors Appeal Light Sentences in Holyland Case

The State Prosecutor's Office filed appeals to the Supreme Court, Friday, against the leniency in the punishment meted out to a number of defendants in the Holyland corruption case, which revolved around the approval of a Jerusalem land development that appeared headed for rejection.

The appeal focuses on Hillel Charney and Avigdor Kellner, convicted of being the principle bribers of Jerusalem officials. The High Court is being asked to substantially increase the 3.5-year prison sentence handed down to Charney and the three years to be served by Kellner, and the fines against the companies involved in the case.
