Snowden Effect: Germany Cancels Contract with Verizon

The German government has cancelled a contract with American company Verizon over concern that U.S. firms may be giving data to U.S. authorities.

Thursday’s move comes several months after there was anger in Germany over allegations that a U.S. agency bugged Chancellor Angela Merkel's phone. Those allegations were made by a former contractor of the National Security Agency (NSA), Edward Snowden.
