Housing Minister Uri Ariel said, Monday, "The need to strengthen the public housing system is a vital need in the fight against poverty." Addressing a report on poverty due out during the day, he continued, "In recent months I reactivated the law on the sale of public housing, where all the proceeds first enter a designated Ministry of Housing fund and will be used to purchase new flats to eligible borrowers in the coming months."
Ariel added, "I also ordered acceleration the activation of the 'affordable housing' outline. If the Treasury does not allow the transfer of money for public housing, we will create the money. Crumbling public housing complexes will undergo gentrification with all the proceeds going to the acquisition of new homes by eligible [buyers]. Next to the fight to bring down housing prices for the middle class, we must not leave those who need us most of all at the side of the road."
