Trajtenberg: Lapid Program Won't Solve Housing Problem

Professor Manuel Trajtenberg, whose committee addressed socio-economic issues following protests around the country a couple of years ago, criticized, Monday, a plan by Finance Minister Ya'ir Lapid to solve the problem of high housing costs by eliminating the 18-percent value-added tax for certain first-time apartment buyers.

During a panel discussion at the Herzliya Conference on public policy, Professor Trajtenberg said, "Dealing with the housing market is a phenomenal failure because there is no courage and strength to call a spade a spade and say that until we deal with supply not only demand, nothing  significant will happen."
