MK Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) said on Saturday that the presidential elections should be opened up to the general public.
“I refuse to participate in this political fiasco. I believe that the presidential elections should be handed over to the public. The president presides over all of us, not just over the Knesset. It is not right that the president is elected as the result of a political tug-of-war,” Mofaz said. Mofaz added that “The presidential institution is so important to me; it brings much honor to the State. It pains me to see how the preoccupation with it transformed from something moral and national to a personal and ugly political battlefield.”
