Campaign Against Sexual Harassment in National Service

The National Volunteer Service Authority and the organizations it serves have formulated procedures to define, identify and prevent sexual harassment against the volunteers in the wake of increasing reports about the problem. The procedures have been added to those announced at the beginning of the volunteer year in September.

Sar-Shalom Gerbi, who heads the authority, said, "We always have our eyes on the well being and personal security of the volunteers." He added, "While the situation is not as severe as some try to describe for this and that other reason, for us every girl is a world unto herself. We are aware of existing problems and indeed there is much on which to improve in this regard and therefore we are working by all means to raise awareness of the matter and to treat these shocking cases of sexual harassment in a uniform and regulated way."
