Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, held a Bible class, Sunday evening at the Prime Minister's Residence in Jerusalem, in memory of his father-in-law, Shmuel Ben Artzi, in conjunction with the Menahem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem. The tradition, started in the days of David Ben-Gurion and continued by Begin, was renewed two years ago by Netanyahu. The topic was the Book of Ruth, which is read as part of the morning service on Shavuot.
Netanyahu said, "I have always thought and always believed that the Bible is the foundation of our existence here. Otherwise we would be somewhere else, or we would not exist at all. Through the ages the impact of written words has not diminished. On the contrary - their power and their sharpness have only grown stronger. So I think we need, here at the Prime Minister's Residence, to raise the banner of the Bible every few months."
