The Knesset Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs met with Belgian Ambassador John Cornet d'Elzius, Tuesday morning, to discuss the weekend attack on the Jewish museum in Belgium in which two Israeli tourists and two others were murdered. Committee member Dov Lipman (Yesh Atid) told Ambassador d'Elzius, "We cannot view this attack in Brussels as an isolated event and simply respond about a need for more security. This attack and others - along with the results of the European election - demonstrate a strong turn towards antisemitism in Europe."
Rabbi Lipman continued, "And make no mistake about it - there is a direct connection between the way European leaders speak about Israel and the rise in antisemitism. If your leaders speak about de-legitimization of Israel and use exaggerated and even inciteful terms relating to Israel's policies, that breeds these attacks and ideologies. So, I ask you to please relay this message to the leaders of your countries and that while of course more security and better education must be an immediate response to the attack, in addition more caution must be used regarding how they speak about Israel and criticize Israel."
