Bribery Plea Bargain for Brother of Bat Yam Mayor

The Tel Aviv Magistrates Court approved, Monday morning, a plea bargain between prosecutors and Avi Lahiani, brother of Mayor Shlomi Lahiani of the southern Tel Aviv suburb of Bat Yam. The brothers were accused of taking bribes from concerns that had business with Bat Yam in order to avoid bankruptcy and meet agreements with various banks.

Plea bargains were also approved with co-defendants Avner Krief and Oved David Hai. As a result, the charges were raised from bribery to breach of trust. Another defendant, Ezra Dawash, did not sign a plea bargain. Sentencing is scheduled for July.
