J'm Mayor Gives Pope Translated Shiloach Inscription

Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem received Pope Francis, Sunday evening, at the helicopter landing pad on Mount Scopus, overlooking the city, and gave him a message about maintaining the completeness of the capital and its centrality to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Mayor Barkat presented the pontiff with a relief of an inscription from the Shiloach (Silwan in Arabic) area just south of what is now Jerusalem's Old City, translated into Latin. The inscription describes the carving out of a tunnel in the days of King Hezekiah to bring the waters of the Gihon stream into the ancient capital.
