MK: Reconsider Firing of Teacher who Attacked IDF

Chairman Amram Mitzna of the Knesset Education Committee called on the ORT educational network, Sunday evening, to reconsider the firing of teacher Adam Verete, who attacked the morals of the Israel Defense Forces a few months ago. Verete told IDF Radio, Sunday morning, that the educational program he was working in would not be continued.

A decorated soldier who headed the IDF's Central Command and its Planning Branch, Mitzna said, "The message that comes out to the general public and teachers in particular, encourages stifling [of expression] even if that was not the intention of the management of ORT. In such a situation the consideration of values and appearances should be put before the economic-organizational considerations for the sake of preserving democracy and, more importantly, for maintaining and protecting the status of teachers."
