With 18 days to go before the Knesset is scheduled to elect the successor to President Shim'on Peres, efforts continue at mediating between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Member of Knesset Reuven Rivlin (Likud Beytenu) so that Netanyahu will support the former Knesset speaker's candidacy for the position, according to a Friday-morning report by the Yisrael Hayom daily.
Senior party members have been meeting with the two over the last two days in an effort to bring them face to face in the coming days. The efforts have been led by Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon and Knesset Labor, Welfare and Health Committee Chairman Haim Katz. Both have met a number of times with Rivlin. Ya'alon has met with Netanyahu and Katz is expected to do the same next week.
