Chief of Staff Concerned but Committed to Budget

Chief of Staff Benny Gantz of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Tuesday, that he was concerned about budget cuts that have affected the IDF's training regimen, explaining that the IDF had to assure its military fitness in the long term. He said that the military stood where it expected to stand at this point in the budget cycle and would work with the tools it was given, expressing hope that it could retain its quality personnel.

Committee Chairman Ze'ev Elkin agreed that the IDF must work with the tools the government gives it, explaining that the budget could only be stretched so far. He said lawmakers would have to take a look at reports of a budgetary crisis.
