Report: Jewish Community Monitoring Balkan Flooding

The Jewish community in the flood-ravaged Balkan states is actively monitoring the situation, according to a Monday-morning report by the hareidi newspaper Hamevasser.

The paper quoted Serbian Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Asiel as saying there are no known Jewish victims. He added that there is a statistical probability of Jews who may have lived in flooded areas and efforts are being made to locate them in mass shelters. He said the once-in-a-century flooding was the result of three months of rain that fell over the space of a few days, also a once-in-a-century phenomenon.
