Simhayoff Suspends Himself Following Sentencing

Jerusalem City Councilman Eli Simhayoff suspended himself from all municipal duties, Tuesday morning, after he was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison on two counts of taking a bribe in the Holyland corruption case. He was also fined 300,000 shekels ($87,000).

In a letter to Mayor Nir Barkat, Simhayoff said the suspension would be in effect until the end of his appeal to the Supreme Court, which he is expected to submit in a few days.
