First Women to Take Test to Become Kashrut Supervisors

The first testing period for women to become mashgichot (kosher food and preparation supervisors) takes place today (Wednesday) in Jerusalem.

Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi David Lau had spoken at a food industry-related conference three months ago, saying that there is no reason for women not to supervise the kashrut (kosher status) of food.

It should be noted that the late renowned Torah luminary Rabbi Moshe Feinstein wrote a responsum permitting women to serve in that capacity many years ago.
