Hasidic Paper: Stand for the Sirens

The hasidic newspaper Hamodia' called, Sunday, on its readers who are in public to stand still for the sirens associated with Memorial Day for Israel's fallen soldiers, pre-state fighters, and terror victims. While noting that the hareidi public has been taught not to imitate secular ceremony, the newspaper's editorial said business-as-usual plays into the hand of media that portrays the community as harming the memory of the fallen.

The newspaper noted there are other ways of remembering the fallen, such as lighting memorial candles, saying Psalms and Kaddish and studying portions of the Oral Law.
